[Keeping it Fresh]

UCSBreakin' is one of the largest breaking groups in California. Founded 10 years ago, they went from a small mat and a boombox to having sessions in a private studio space. Today, they continue to promote hip-hop dance and contribute to their surrounding community through lessons and big group performances.

I was asked to rebrand UCSBreakin's digital and physical presence. This included the creation of a new logo, combined with fresh jacket and shirt designs - as well as various assets to be used in their advertisements.

[Goals]

My goals for this rebrand were as follows:

  • Modernize and stylize the brand, while respecting the 'heart' of the originals. A little bit of grit, but a lot of hip-hop.

  • New members should be able to stand side-by-side with older members with older merch, without looking out of place in a competition or performance.

  • Find ways to strengthen the connection to Santa Barbara (805 area code), so members can represent their community and organization simultaneously.

Aftermath

Together, we sold 52 jackets at a cost of $65 and 60 shirts at a cost of $20 each. That's $4,580 in revenue generated.

The Instagram page for the club grew from 100 followers to 453 followers after the rebrand, becoming the most followed collegiate breaking club on Instagram.
